The R.J. Leonard Foundation is a community funded nonprofit organization that provides a Fellowship program for young adults aging out of the foster care system.
We aim to provide these at-risk youth with Education First support that will give them the same opportunities as their more fortunate peers.
We believe that a motivated mind is a terrible thing to waste.

featured fellowDavid's college application essay went like this: “Hope seems like a word that’s thrown around like rice at a wedding these days, but to me it isn’t a frivolous word at all. It is the word that has been at the core of my brain’s messaging for many years. I hope this ends. I hope this works out. I hope the next one works out. I hope I can pay my rent this month. I hope I get this job. I hope I pass this class. I hope this internship works out. I hope I’m not too old to be seen as an undergraduate student. Now the hope is that you all take a few moments to focus closely on this short story and that it means enough to you to consider me for a place at my dream college, Champlain College.”
David's College Update: Now in his 3rd year at one of the top programs in the country, with 94 credits under his belt and a 3.4 GPA, he’s past hoping. He now knows that his hard work is paying off and he’s on the way to realize his dream to become the designer and producer of meaningful, fun and educational video games for kids. |
How You're helpingWhen I first became a Fellow, I was in a bad space, and was at a major risk of dropping out of college. Here I am now, almost finished my Bachelor’s degree. Everything that the foundation has supported me with from educational scholarships, monthly support, workshops, meetings, etc.—I thank you from the bottom of my heart." - Emily B. |
