Who Can Apply?
To become a Fellow at the R.J. Leonard Foundation, applicants must:
- Have been involved in the Child Welfare System: Current or former participants in the foster care system are eligible.
- Demonstrate Academic Motivation: Provide past and current academic transcripts and a detailed plan outlining educational and career aspirations.
- Provide Recommendations: Two reference letters are required, highlighting the applicant's character, work ethic, and motivation towards productivity and self-sufficiency.
- Commit to Mentor Engagement: Applicants must be willing to actively work with a mentor provided by the Foundation.
- Maintain Legal Standing: Applicants must not have current legal entanglements that could hinder full participation in the program.
- Well-being Commitment: Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to maintain and care for their mental and physical health, without needing to disclose any private health details.

- Fellow Inquiry and Application: We invite you to share your contact details, along with information about your educational journey, including schools attended and achievements. Provide any relevant transcripts or certificates. Describe your career goals and what you hope to achieve, and provide a detailed plan outlining how you intend to pursue your education and career aspirations. Start Your Application.
- Interviews: Selected candidates will be invited for interviews to further discuss their aspirations, needs and what to expect.
- Acceptance: Upon successful completion of all steps, candidates will be asked to review and sign the Fellow Agreement form and will be welcomed into our community. View Agreement.
