Welcome to the R.J. Leonard Foundation—where we empower young adults transitioning from foster care into independent lives. We provide tailored mentoring and financial support to help our Fellows, who are either preparing to leave or have recently left foster care, achieve their personal and professional goals.

Our mission is to educate, initiate careers, and provide personal mentorship to young adults aging out of the foster care system.

Eligibility Criteria
Who Can Apply?
To become a Fellow at the R.J. Leonard Foundation, applicants must:

• Have been involved in the Child Welfare System: Current or former participants in the foster care system are eligible.
• Demonstrate Academic Motivation: Provide past and current academic transcripts and a detailed plan outlining educational and career aspirations.
• Provide Recommendations: Two reference letters are required, highlighting the applicant's character, work ethic, and motivation towards productivity and self-sufficiency.
• Commit to Mentor Engagement: Applicants must be willing to actively work with a mentor provided by the Foundation.
• Maintain Legal Standing: Applicants must not have current legal entanglements that could hinder full participation in the program.
• Well-being Commitment: Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to maintain and care for their mental and physical health, without needing to disclose any private health details.

Follow these steps to join the program and start your journey as a Fellow:

1. Fellow Inquiry and Application: We invite you to share your contact details, along with information about your educational journey, including schools attended and achievements. Provide any relevant transcripts or certificates. Describe your career goals and what you hope to achieve, and provide a detailed plan outlining how you intend to pursue your education and career aspirations. Start Your Application.
2. Interviews: Selected candidates will be invited for interviews to further discuss their aspirations, needs and what to expect.
3. Acceptance: Upon successful completion of all steps, candidates will be asked to review and sign the Fellow Agreement form and will be welcomed into our community. View Agreement.

• Engage Actively: Demonstrate commitment by actively participating in mentoring sessions, educational programs, and community events.
• Communicate Regularly: Maintain regular communication with your mentor, sharing updates and challenges to receive appropriate guidance and support.
• Pursue Academic and Career Goals: Work diligently towards your educational and career objectives, utilizing the resources and support provided by the Foundation.
• Adhere to Program Guidelines: Follow all guidelines and policies set by the Foundation to ensure a safe and productive environment for all participants.
• Complete Required Documentation: Timely submission of all necessary forms and documents, including evaluation forms, progress reports, and any other required paperwork.

As part of your application and ongoing participation in the fellowship program, you'll need to complete and submit the following forms:

1. Fellow Inquiry Form: Please provide your name, age, contact details, educational background, transcripts, career goals, and a detailed plan for your education and career aspirations. Complete Application Form.
2. Fellow Agreement: This agreement outlines your participation in the program and must be signed upon acceptance. View and Sign Agreement.
3. Photo & Video Release Form: Optional form that allows us to use images and videos for promotional materials. Opt-In Form. 
4. Fellow Matching Form: To help match your mentor, please complete this form to inform your mentor and find the best fit. Access the Form
5. Initial and Monthly Budget Sheets: Track expenses and financial aid, crucial for both Fellows and Mentors. Complete Budget Sheet.
6. Meeting Planning Worksheet: For Fellows to prepare and share before meetings, ensuring structured and effective discussions. Access Worksheet.
7. 90 Evaluation Form: Fellows to fill out after three months of collaboration, providing insights into the mentoring relationship and areas for improvement. Submit Evaluation.
